BSkyB's Move On ITV To Get Stepped-Up Scrutiny

Law360 (February 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In an unprecedented move by the British government, the U.K. trade department has launched an investigation into whether British Sky Broadcasting Group’s acquisition of ITV plc shares raises competition issues in the U.K. television market.

The Department of Trade and Industry has authorized Ofcom, the U.K.’s communications industry regulator, to investigate whether BSkyB’s acquisition of a 17.9% stake in ITV raises public interest issues regarding the number of different owners of media enterprises.
