3rd Circ. Chucks Ex-Mayor's Honest Services Conviction

Law360, New York (September 16, 2010, 4:44 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court Thursday overturned part of former Newark Mayor Sharpe James' corruption conviction, largely basing its decision on the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the case of Enron Corp. CEO Jeffrey Skilling.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals tossed James' conviction of honest services fraud but affirmed the remaining four counts against him, a judgment that means little to the former New Jersey mayor in a practical sense since he has already served his prison sentence.
