MasterCard, Visa Can't Escape Contactless Card IP Suit

Law360, New York (September 20, 2010, 4:34 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has denied a motion by MasterCard Inc. and Visa Inc. to dismiss a suit brought by technology company SmartMetric Inc. that alleges the credit card giants' contactless card systems infringe a patent.

Judge Jacqueline H. Nguyen of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Friday ruled that arguments by MasterCard and Visa that a second amended complaint in the suit contained factual errors and omissions did not justify dismissal at this stage.
