Class Cert. Denied In H&R Block Warranty Action

Law360, New York (September 21, 2010, 5:59 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has blocked plaintiffs' bid for class certification in a suit accusing H&R Block Tax Services Inc. of deceptive marketing for selling an extended warranty on its services that customers didn't really need.

Judge Michael J. Reagan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois found Friday that he could not certify the class in part because the plaintiffs sued only for monetary damages and not injunctive or declaratory relief.
