Sportingbet Settles Online Gambling Probe For $33M

Law360, New York (September 21, 2010, 1:34 PM EDT) -- British Internet gambling company Sportingbet PLC has agreed to turn over $33 million in profits from U.S. customers and cooperate with federal investigators to avoid prosecution for offering illegal gambling services.

Sportingbet inked a nonprosecution agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York that calls for the company to forfeit profits, cooperate with the prosecutor's ongoing investigation and permanently block access to its site for U.S. users barring a change in federal online gambling law, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Monday....
