5th Circ. Orders Stanford Detained For 3rd Time

Law360, New York (September 27, 2010, 7:43 PM EDT) -- An appeals court has shot down accused Ponzi schemer Robert Allen Stanford’s third bid to overturn an order requiring him to remain in jail until his trial next year.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled Monday that Stanford, who stands accused of masterminding an $8 billion Ponzi scheme, failed to show that his continued detention violated his constitutionally protected rights to due process and effective counsel.
