Microsoft Sidesteps Alcatel-Lucent's Speech Patents

Law360, New York (March 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- One week after it was hit with the largest damage award in patent litigation history, Microsoft Corp. has been cleared of infringement in a parallel case brought by rival Alcatel-Lucent over its patents for speech recognition technology.

In a preliminary ruling issued March 1, Judge Rudi Brewster in the Southern District of California dismissed all of Alcatel-Lucent’s claims in its case against Microsoft, ensuring a jury trial scheduled for later this month won’t take place.
