BP To Pay Record $15M Fine Over Texas Refinery

Law360, New York (September 30, 2010, 4:28 PM EDT) -- BP Products North America Inc. agreed Thursday to pay a $15 million penalty to resolve Clean Air Act violations at its problem-plagued Texas City, Texas, refinery, marking the largest-ever civil fine of its kind.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency filed a consent decree in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, addressing violations related to two fires at the refinery in March 2004 and July 2005, as well as a high-pressure release of liquid and gas hydrocarbons in August 2005.
