Judge Refuses To Toss Contamination Suit

Law360, New York (March 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Manhattan district court on Wednesday batted down an attempt by Unocal Corp. and other oil companies to dismiss a suit accusing them of mishandling a gasoline additive that has contaminated groundwater.

Judge Shira A. Scheindlin was not convinced that the case should be deferred to California agencies, and said the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York was well-suited to address matters of tort law.
