Pitney Bowes Unit To Pay $4M Over Postage Claims

Law360, New York (October 20, 2010, 6:50 PM EDT) -- Pitney Bowes Inc. mail sorting unit Quicksort Inc. will shell out $4.2 million to settle civil allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by fraudulently obtaining discount postage rates, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

California-based Quicksort, along with two subsidiaries, agreed to cough up the cash in order to resolve the DOJ's claims that the company had misrepresented the amounts of presorted mail it submitted to the U.S. Postal Service dating back to 2008, the department said in a statement.
