Policyholders Seek Contractor Costs From Travelers

Law360, New York (October 25, 2010, 12:29 PM EDT) -- Residential insurance policyholders have hit Travelers Cos. Inc. with a putative class action alleging the company violated Florida law by failing to cover the costs of general contractors before repairs were made to damaged properties.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The plaintiffs estimated the putative class could number in the thousands, and that the case should proceed as a class action because it would not be feasible for each policyholder to sue individually.
