FTC Drops Probe Into Google Street View Snooping

Law360, New York (October 27, 2010, 6:23 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission has ended its inquiry into Google Inc.'s inadvertent gathering of data, including personal e-mails, passwords and Web surfing information, sent over unsecured Wi-Fi networks, the agency said Wednesday.

In a letter to Perkins Coie LLP's Albert Gerardi, who represents Google, FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director David Vladeck wrote that the agency had decided to end the probe because of Google's promise to delete the data as soon as possible and to refrain from using the private information in any Google product....
