Lodge Owner Hits Canada With $8M NAFTA Claim

Law360, New York (November 10, 2010, 1:58 PM EST) -- A U.S. citizen has lodged an $8 million free-trade claim accusing the Canadian government of unfairly pulling the plug on permits for his Quebec-based lodge and outfitting business in order to protect its own investments in competing Canadian companies.

Attorney Brett G. Canna mailed the Nov. 2 notice of arbitration on behalf of William Greiner under the North American Free Trade Agreement, challenging the Quebec provincial government's 2008 withdrawal of commerce authorizations that had allowed Greiner's Malbaie River Outfitters Inc. to conduct business on several rivers...
