Zenith Pens Royalty Deal With Toshiba Over Digital Broadcast Patent

Law360, New York (September 1, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- LG Electronics Inc.’s Zenith Electronics Corp. has penned a deal to allow Toshiba Corp. the use of its digital broadcast patent, the first in what is expected to be a series of potentially lucrative agreements with television makers over the main technology patent for U.S.-standard digital broadcasts.

The details of the agreement were not disclosed, a spokeswoman for the South Korean electronics maker told the Korea Herald business daily.

Zenith has already collected royalties from several digital set-top box manufacturers and broadcast-equipment makers. It expects negotiations...
