DOD Reduces Delays In Security Clearance

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 5:15 PM EST) -- The amount of time it takes industry personnel to get security clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense has dropped from almost a year in 2007 to two months, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The department has made major strides in speeding up the clearance process, which took an average of 325 days in 2007, Brenda Farrell, the GAO's director of defense capabilities and management, told lawmakers in a hearing Tuesday.
