SF Board Overrules Veto Of Happy Meals Bill

Law360, New York (November 24, 2010, 5:58 PM EST) -- As expected, San Francisco’s legislature has overruled Mayor Gavin Newsom’s veto of a bill that will ban the sale of Happy Meals and similar toy-based offerings unless they contain only healthy foods.

San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors voted 8-3 on Tuesday to override Newsom’s veto.

“The board’s vote was expected, but that doesn’t change the fact that Mayor Newsom still disagrees with this intrusive, ineffective approach to combat childhood obesity,” Francis Tsang, a spokesman for the mayor's office, told Law360 on Wednesday.
