Sony Triumphs In Defective HDTV Action

Law360, New York (December 1, 2010, 2:06 PM EST) -- A federal judge has thrown out a putative class action against Sony Corp. over high-definition televisions that allegedly failed just out of warranty, telling the plaintiffs they are not entitled to a functioning product outside the warranty period.

Sony expressly warranted the WEGA-model televisions at issue for just one year, so any subsequent failure is not the company's problem, Judge Irma E. Gonzalez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California ruled Tuesday, dismissing the case with prejudice.
