Judge Won’t Let Contractors Ditch FEMA Trailer MDL

Law360, New York (December 3, 2010, 7:50 PM EST) -- A federal judge has refused to allow Shaw Environmental Inc. and other government contractors to exit multidistrict litigation claiming trailers issued after hurricanes Katrina and Rita exposed residents to formaldehyde.

Judge Kurt Engelhardt of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on Thursday threw out the plaintiffs’ claims that Shaw, CH2M Hill Constructors Inc. and Bechtel National Inc. failed to properly maintain the trailers, but kept alive the rest of the claims asserting the companies’ method of lifting the trailers up onto concrete...
