NTSB Blames Contractor, US For Fatal Chopper Crash

Law360, New York (December 8, 2010, 2:53 PM EST) -- The National Transportation Safety Board has determined that insufficient federal oversight and missteps by a government contractor led to a fatal helicopter crash in 2008 that killed nine people in California, including seven firefighters.

The NTSB, which released the results of its investigation on Tuesday, said that Carson Helicopters Inc. intentionally altered weight documents and performance charts and used unapproved performance calculations. Members of the flight crew were also partly to blame, the NTSB said.
