Dean Foods To Pay $30M To Settle Vt. Antitrust Suit

By Ryan Davis (December 9, 2010, 3:35 PM EST) -- Dean Foods Co. has agreed to pay $30 million to settle a proposed class action alleging the company monopolized distribution of milk in the Northeast in collaboration with Dairy Farmers of America Inc.

In a filing Thursday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it had struck a deal in the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont, subject court approval.

In addition to the $30 million payment, the settlement requires the company to agree to certain terms and conditions with respect to its raw milk procurement activities at some of its processing plants...
