BlueBeat Song Sales Violate Copyrights: Judge

Law360 (December 10, 2010, 4:35 PM EST) -- A federal judge has held that BlueBeat.com is liable for copyright infringement for reproducing thousands of songs and offering them for 25 cents per track or for free without getting authorization from recording companies.

Judge Josephine Staton Tucker of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Wednesday granted a bid by EMI Christian Music Group Inc. and other record companies for partial summary judgment, finding BlueBeat on the hook for copyright violations, misappropriation, unfair competition and conversion.
