US Criticizes Planned Parenthood In Overbilling Case

Law360, New York (December 16, 2010, 4:32 PM EST) -- The U.S. has slammed Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California's responses to a False Claims Act suit that accuses the reproductive rights organization of deliberately overbilling state and federal governments for at least $180 million worth of birth control.

The federal government declined to intervene in the whistleblower suit when it was unsealed in 2007 and still has not stated a position on the merits of the case — but it objected to the way Planned Parenthood’s response briefs had characterized the False Claims Act, according to...
