Ofcom Accuses UK Telecom BT Of Unfair Pricing

Law360, New York (December 21, 2010, 2:25 PM EST) -- British regulator Ofcom on Tuesday accused telecommunications giant BT PLC of trying to weaken or eliminate rivals through its wholesale call pricing.

Ofcom's allegations come after BT's competitors, Thus PLC and Gamma Telecom Ltd., complained to Ofcom that BT had abused its dominant market position. They alleged BT priced its wholesale calls below cost between July 2008 and April 2009.

The wholesale calls market involves large communications providers offering wholesale fixed-line telecommunications services to other, smaller providers, according to Ofcom. The smaller companies then offer services...
