Sheriffs' FLSA Suit Against Calif. County Survives

Law360, New York (January 6, 2011, 1:25 PM EST) -- A federal judge has rejected Los Angeles County's argument that certain claims in two related collective actions brought by deputy sheriffs under the Fair Labor Standards Act are precluded by earlier rulings in a separate case.

In nearly identical orders issued in the two cases Tuesday, Judge Aubrey B. Collins of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California denied the county's motion for partial summary judgment on the plaintiffs' claim for overtime compensation for time spent donning and doffing their uniforms and equipment....
