Nike Faces Patent Claim From Reebok

Law360 (April 4, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The battle for dominance over the multibillion-dollar athletic shoe market has hit the courtroom, with Reebok International Ltd. claiming that market leader Nike Inc. has infringed a patent for collapsible shoes.

Reebok, a subsidiary of Germany-based Adidas AG, filed a suit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, claiming that 11 different Nike sneakers marketed under the “Free” product names violate its patent for flexible sole technology. The suit alleges that Nike “willfully and intentionally” developed shoes that use Reebok’s technology....
