Sony Targets PS3 Hackers For IP Infringement

Law360, New York (January 12, 2011, 7:02 PM EST) -- Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC is suing a band of computer hackers for devising a method to circumvent security software in the company’s Playstation 3 gaming console and publishing the process on the Internet.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges George Hotz and a hacker group known as fail0verflow — along with numerous as-yet unnamed defendants — disseminated a procedure that could allow PS3 owners to run pirated games and unauthorized software on the system....
