Avis, Dollar Thrifty Say Merger Would Lower Costs

Law360, New York (January 12, 2011, 5:27 PM EST) -- Avis Budget Group Inc. and Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. are trying to convince antitrust regulators that their proposed merger would benefit consumers by lowering company costs and maintaining intense competition in the rental car market.

In filings submitted Tuesday to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the companies characterized ongoing discussions with the Federal Trade Commission as productive, saying they have turned over millions of pages of documents and provided vast amounts of data to help regulators make their decision.
