High Court To Hear Fight Over Calif. Medicaid Cuts

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 2:03 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to hear California's challenge to decisions that thwarted its attempt to reduce Medicaid reimbursements, in a case that will determine whether Medicaid providers and recipients may launch a preemption fight under the supremacy clause.

The high court justices are hearing three consolidated suits initially brought by adult health care providers, hospitals and pharmacists who won victories when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit blocked California's bid to slash Medicaid payments.
