Tax Preparer Gets 6 Years For $17M Fraud

Law360, New York (January 20, 2011, 5:46 PM EST) -- A federal judge on Thursday sentenced the founder of tax preparation service Tax Prep Inc. to six years in prison for helping customers obtain more than $17 million in refunds using phony deductions and other fraud.

Judge Sidney H. Stein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York issued the sentence to Lester Morrison, 60, doling out a penalty that was below a guideline range of up to eight years requested by prosecutors.
