Manhattan DA Wants To Give Martin Act More Bite

Law360 (January 25, 2011, 9:27 PM EST) -- One of New York City’s top prosecutors said Tuesday night that he would expand his office’s use of the Martin Act in targeting financial fraud, as well as lobby lawmakers to toughen penalties under the measure.

Speaking at the New York City Bar Association, New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said he would call on the New York state Legislature to reform the act in order to bring Martin Act sentences in line with existing penalties for grand larceny.
