Napster Denied $1M For Copyright Defense Bills

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 7:24 PM EST) -- Napster LLC has lost a contract suit claiming record label Rounder Records Corp. should contribute at least $1.3 million to the online music seller's bill for previous copyright litigation with music publishers.

Judge Paul A. Crotty of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York issued the ruling Tuesday, throwing out Napster's claims that Rounder Records — which specializes in bluegrass and country music — is obligated to pitch in pursuant to two contracts signed in 2001 and 2006.
