Stanford Ruled Incompetent To Stand Trial

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 8:48 PM EST) -- A federal judge on Wednesday found alleged Ponzi schemer Robert Allen Stanford legally incompetent to stand trial, but rejected the Texas financier's request to be released on bond for treatment at a private medical facility.

Judge David Hittner of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas agreed with Stanford's counsel that Stanford does not have the present mental capacity to effectively and rationally assist his attorneys in preparing his defense.
