Roche Hit With Suit Over Blood Typing Patent

Law360, New York (January 27, 2011, 2:27 PM EST) -- Roche Molecular Systems Inc. has been sued by a rival biotechnology company claiming it shouldn't have to pay royalties for blood typing products that Roche alleges are protected by a patent.

One Lambda Inc. asked the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Tuesday to invalidate the F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. unit's patent for a method of typing blood that uses DNA probes to identify genetic characteristics of an individual's immune system.
