Lennox To Pay $5M In Fees To End Fireplace Class Suit

Law360 (January 31, 2011, 7:38 PM EST) -- Lennox International Inc. has agreed to provide consumers with free fireplace screens and shell out nearly $5 million in attorneys' fees to settle a class action alleging its fireplaces are unsafe because their glass fronts become extremely hot.

The settlement, announced publicly on Friday, was preliminarily approved by Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Jan. 11. The screen will prevent consumers from burning themselves by touching the glass, according to court papers.
