Madoff Associate Fails To Block Investor Suits

Law360, New York (February 2, 2011, 6:37 PM EST) -- A bankruptcy judge Wednesday declined to halt legal actions brought by Bernard L. Madoff investors against one of the Ponzi schemer's close associates, Robert Jaffe, and his firm Cohmad Securities Corp.

Judge Burton L. Lifland of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York denied Jaffe's request to enforce a $550 million settlement between a litigation trustee and Jaffe's in-laws, Carl and Ruth Shapiro, which purportedly encompassed claims against Jaffe.
