NYC Objects To $38M 'Bonus' In 9/11 Settlement

Law360, New York (February 3, 2011, 7:00 PM EST) -- A federal judge's decision that could add $37.5 million to a settlement between WTC Captive Insurance Co. and 9/11 responders suffering from respiratory ailments has sparked a heated dispute between plaintiffs' attorneys and the city.

Attorneys for the city Monday asked Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to reconsider his Dec. 30 ruling involuntarily dismissing 409 plaintiffs who could not be located or failed to respond to notifications about the settlement.
