Pentagon Makes Stand Against Contractor Mergers

Law360, New York (February 9, 2011, 12:04 PM EST) -- A top U.S. Department of Defense acquisition officer said Wednesday that military officials were likely to oppose any further consolidation among its primary weapons systems contractors.

In prepared remarks delivered at the Cowen Investment Conference in New York, Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Ashton B. Carter argued that excessive concentration among its prime weapons contractors would undermine the Pentagon's goal of increasing head-to-head competition among companies to help drive down costs and improve efficiency.
