DOD Unveils Final Plan To Downsize Joint Forces In Va.

Law360, New York (February 9, 2011, 6:54 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense finalized plans Wednesday to downsize the Hampton Roads, Va., Joint Forces Command — which employs nearly 4,000 workers and private contractors — by roughly half.

The move, part of the DOD's ongoing effort to cut costs by about $100 billion to help finance wars in the Middle East, represents a compromise with lawmakers who opposed the department's initial plans to close the JFCOM completely.
