Dooney Founder Claims Ignorance In Illegal Oil Deal

Law360, New York (February 10, 2011, 3:51 PM EST) -- A co-founder of handbag company Dooney & Bourke argued before the Second Circuit on Thursday that he was wrongfully convicted of conspiring to bribe Azerbaijan officials in a deal to acquire a state-owned oil company, alleging ignorance of the scheme.

A lawyer for Frederic Bourke Jr. told a panel in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that his client was not informed enough to understand that the business deal in which he was investing could lead to violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices...
