Possible $113B Award Barred In Chevron Ecuador Case

Law360, New York (February 11, 2011, 4:59 PM EST) -- An international arbitration panel has ordered Ecuador to block enforcement of an anticipated ruling of as much as $113 billion against Chevron Corp. in a bitter legal battle over pollution in the Amazon rain forest.

A panel of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague issued an interim ruling Wednesday ordering Ecuador to “take all measures at its disposal to suspend or cause to be suspended the enforcement or recognition” of any judgment against Chevron in the case, pending further proceedings.
