Sephora Smacked With Customer Privacy Suit

Law360, New York (February 23, 2011, 7:11 PM EST) -- Beauty retailer Sephora Inc. is facing a proposed class action accusing it of illegally collecting customers' zip codes, which may signal an uptick in such lawsuits following a California ruling barring stores from collecting the information during credit card transactions.

The suit, filed Tuesday in the California Superior Court, claims that by collecting this personal identification information, Sephora is putting consumers at risk and jeopardizing their financial security and credit rating by exposing them to possible identify theft and fraud.
