Motorola Slapped Over 'Xoom' Trademark

Law360, New York (February 24, 2011, 6:35 PM EST) -- A money transfer company sued three Motorola Inc. units Wednesday in California federal court, claiming the new Xoom tablet — Motorola's answer to Apple Inc.’s iPad — ripped off its trademarked name and gave the telecommunications giant an unfair competitive edge.

Xoom Corp., the online transfer business that operates, sued Motorola Mobility Inc., Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and Motorola Trademark Holdings LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, near the plaintiff's San Francisco headquarters.
