Defamation Suit Over 'CSI' Characters Tossed

Law360 (March 2, 2011, 2:57 PM EST) -- Calling the creation of a TV show protected free speech, a California appellate court Tuesday ruled against two married real estate agents who claimed they were defamed by the CBS program "CSI" when it featured unflattering characters with similar names.

The Court of Appeal of the State of California, Second Appellate District, ruled that a lower court erred when it denied a motion by CBS to strike the complaint under the state's law barring strategic lawsuits against public participation, or SLAPP.
