Ineligible Cos. Won Small Business Contracts: GAO

Law360, New York (March 3, 2011, 5:38 PM EST) -- Fourteen companies received $325 million in U.S. Small Business Administration set-aside or sole-source contracts through “fraud or abuse” over the past year, underscoring wider flaws in the SBA preference program, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a report released Thursday.

The report, prepared for the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, highlights key findings based on the GAO's year-long probe into fraud in the SBA's 8(a) program, which sets aside and limits competition for contracts going to socially and economically disadvantaged smaller businesses....
