DOD May Have Overpaid $100M For Food Deal: Audit

Law360 (March 4, 2011, 5:53 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense may have overpaid a European vendor more than $100 million for food deliveries to Afghanistan and failed to conduct proper oversight of another $600 million to that vendor, the Pentagon’s independent auditing arm said Thursday.

Those oversights account for nearly one-fourth of the more than $3 billion the Defense Logistics Agency has paid Switzerland-based Supreme Foodservice AG since 2005 to supply and transport food to all major bases in Afghanistan, according to Thursdays’ report from the Department of Defense Inspector General....
