Texas Bill Would Expand AG's Role In Qui Tam Suits

Law360 (March 4, 2011, 5:03 PM EST) -- A Texas lawmaker introduced legislation Thursday that would expand the state attorney general's authority to intervene in whistleblower cases that target fraud in any state agency or by government contractors.

State Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, introduced S.B. 1115, which would expand the attorney general's authority to investigate and prosecute fraud by allowing him or her to intervene in qui tam actions. Currently, the attorney general's power to intervene is limited to Medicaid fraud.
