Chevron Wins Injunction On $8B Ecuador Judgment

Law360, New York (March 7, 2011, 8:10 PM EST) -- A federal judge in New York ordered a preliminary injunction Monday halting enforcement of an Ecuadorean court’s $8 billion judgment against Chevron Corp. for alleged environmental damage there.

There is sufficient evidence that Chevron’s opposing counsel in the case committed fraud that payment should be delayed until racketeering charges against the attorneys have been decided in New York, according to the order from Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
