Service Corp. Workers Lose Cert. Bid In Wage Actions

Law360, New York (March 10, 2011, 7:10 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Wednesday refused to certify classes in two related actions accusing funeral services provider Service Corp. International of forcing employees to perform community work and handle other after-hours responsibilities without proper pay.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California denied the plaintiffs' motions for class certification of more than 10,000 current and former hourly employees in two wage-and-hour actions filed against SCI and its subsidiary Alderwoods Group Inc.
