Doctor Class Loses Cert. In Travelers Fraud Suit

Law360, New York (March 17, 2011, 7:15 PM EDT) -- An Illinois appeals court on Monday decertified a class of health care providers who accused Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. of fraudulently underpaying when the insurer reimbursed them for medical services.

The plaintiffs have no valid claims against Travelers, so their class never should have been certified, a three-judge panel of the Appellate Court of Illinois, Fifth District, said.

The plaintiffs, led by Coy Chiropractic Health Care Inc. and Bemis Chiropractic, accused Travelers of paying them too little when it reimbursed them for workers' compensation-related services....
