Pentagon Aims To Cut $6B In Civilian Contractor Jobs

Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 5:43 PM EDT) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates in mid-March detailed a plan to reduce the U.S. Department of Defense's budget by billions, including an effort to save $6 billion by slashing more than 1,000 jobs for civilian contractors.

Gates' plan also seeks savings by reducing the number of high-ranking officers, restructuring internal bureaucracies and overhauling the internal reporting system, according to a memo dated March 14 but not immediately made public.
